SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Though this week’s rainfall may have caused some headaches for commuters, a 12-year-old elephant at the San Diego Zoo was thrilled by the wet weather.
Zoo team members caught on camera the moment Nipho, an endangered African elephant, splashed through the Elephant Odyssey habitat at the park.

Nipho could be seen running in the rain and trumpeting water into the air, showing excitement while enjoying the rare occasion of stormy weather conditions at the San Diego Zoo.
African elephants, like Nipho, have visible tusks and their skin is very wrinkly, as explained by the zoo. They get their name from the look of their ears, which are shaped like the continent of Africa.
Another interesting fact and this species, according to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA), is that elephants never forget. Wildlife experts have said they can remember individuals and even impact life events.
For Nipho, this week’s round of rain may very well be something he looks back on.
