Vista Unified School District holds town hall meeting on human trafficking

VISTA, Calif. (FOX5/KUSI) — A recent Vista Unified School District meeting brought anti-human trafficking leaders together to help educate parents, teachers and students to the warning signs of sex trafficking.

According to the district attorney’s office, 90% of high schools in the County of San Diego have had some experience with trafficking on their campuses. On Thursday, survivors spoke out about their experiences being tricked, betrayed and captured into the life of trafficking.

“This guy was buying me things and taking me on dates, and my friends group thought it was great,” said Keelin Washington, a leading voice against trafficking.

After 4 months of dating an older man, Keelin said she was forced to have sex with strangers for money. When she refused, she said her once loving boyfriend turned into a monster.

“My trafficker at this time was 19-years-old, 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, and beat me until I was unconscious,” said Washington.
