San Diego Humane Society Waives Adoption Fees for Shelter Animals

With nearly 1,800 animals in care and more than 800 prepared for new homes, the San Diego Humane Society is waiving all adoption fees, hoping to find homes for shelter animals.

On Sept. 7 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the San Diego Humane Society campuses located in Escondido, El Cajon, Oceanside and San Diego, there will be hundreds of animals waiting to be taken home at no cost.

The organization will also be reducing fees by 50% until Sept. 10.

Every adopted animal is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated — services that value more than $1000. Adopters also receive an adoption guarantee, a voucher for a free veterinary exam, 30 days of pet insurance, training advice, pet supplies and educational information.

Rita, a 2-year-old dog, is a testimony of what can happen when a family fosters a shelter animal.

Once stray, terrified, shy and skinny, Rita found her personality again in a County Animal Services foster care placement, where she found a family that gave her love. She now gets to enjoy car rides with her new family, playing with toys and getting dressed in hair bows.
