Pedestrian killed in North County crash identified

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A woman killed while walking along a road in San Marcos earlier this month has been identified.

Francisca Garcia Vargas, 76, died in the collision at the intersection of South Twin Oaks Valley Road and Shubin Lane on the evening of Sept. 6, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said on its website.

Vargas was walking along South Twin Oaks Valley Road when she was struck by the vehicle, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. First responders took the victim to the hospital for serious injuries, but she later died at the hospital.

Authorities confirmed alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The driver of the vehicle did cooperate with the investigation.
