Suspect arrested on suspicion of selling fentanyl that killed Escondido woman

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspect was taken into custody last week on suspicion of selling fentanyl that resulted in the overdose death of a 25-year-old Escondido woman, authorities announced Thursday.

The woman was found unresponsive in her home by family members on Sept. 12. Officers with the Escondido Police Department responded and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers discovered drug paraphernalia near the woman’s body, leading to an investigation by the department’s Gang/Narcotics Unit. Police said preliminary tests confirmed the presence of fentanyl in the substances found. From there, detectives worked to trace the origins of the illicit drug, which ultimately led them to a residence on the 1000 block of Paula Way.

A search warrant was executed by the department on Oct. 3 with support from the SWAT team. Danny Nunez, 25, was taken into custody at that time. During the search of the home, authorities seized additional fentanyl and drug paraphernalia they say was indicative of narcotics sales.
