SAN DIEGO (FOX 5KUSI) — Otay Mesa’s newest neighborhood park is scheduled to officially open this weekend after seven years of planning.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the Riviera Del Sol neighborhood park, located between Riviera Shores Street and Riviera Summit Road, at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary plans for the project began in 2017, and the design was completed in 2019. It was previously expected to open late this past summer. The total cost of the project is estimated at more than $9.5 million, according to the city of San Diego.
Photos posted to the city’s X page , formerly Twitter, back in May showed the completion of shade structures and a rubberized surface for playground areas.
The nearly five-acre park is comprised of open lawn areas, a basketball court, playgrounds, picnic shelters and more.
