A vehicle struck and severely injured a teen-age girl Thursday in a commercial area near San Marcos High School.
The incident took place at So. Rancho Santa Fe Road, just south of San Marcos Boulevard at about 6:30 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation shows the driver was heading north, approaching San Marcos Boulevard, when the pedestrian crossed the roadway.
Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of “potentially life-threatening injuries,” sheriff’s officials said.
The road was closed for several hours while the investigation was being conducted. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision and the driver is cooperating with authorities.
