SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A brush fire has been reported in the area of La Presa and Spring Valley Thursday afternoon.
Dubbed the “Quarry Fire,” preliminary calls to California Highway Patrol were made around noon, stating that smoke and flames were visible under a bridge on the east side of southbound State Route 125 near State Route 54.
According to San Miguel Fire Chief Andy Lawler, the fire broke out right under the bridge connection between the two roadways and grew quickly. As of 2:30 p.m., the flames at reached 10 acres in size and forward progress had been halted.
Evacuation orders were briefly in place for the area, but were called off as of 2:22 p.m., according to Cal Fire. The area remains closed to the public as emergency crews respond to the fire.
Emergency response includes two strike teams and a helicopter water drop, plus fire units from San Miguel, Chula Vista, Cal Fire, Santee, Heartland and San Diego.
