The Regional Task Force on Homelessness was awarded a near $10 million grant this week from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The goal of the grant is to prevent and eliminate youth homelessness.
“We’re committed to ending youth homelessness in our region and this grant will certainly help us achieve that goal by funding new housing options and related services,” said Tamera Kohler, CEO of the task force in a news release.
HUD announced that 14 communities nationwide, including three in California, were awarded $72 million total to prevent youth homelessness. The local grant, at nearly $10 million, was second only to All Chicago Making Homelessness History’s $15 million.
The funding will support housing solutions such as rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, transitional housing and host homes.
Our Time To Act, a youth-led nonprofit organization partnering with the regional task force, focuses on building community power and is helping to ensure that youth power is amplified in solutions to youth homelessness.
