New Affordable Housing, with 70 Units, Opens in Carlsbad

Vista Azul, a new affordable housing community in Carlsbad, has opened, San Diego County officials announced.

The development, near Aviara Parkway and Palomar Airport Road, includes 70 new homes for low-income families, plus a variety of amenities like an outdoor BBQ and bocce ball court.

The units include a mix of one-, two-, and three- bedrooms. Anyone earning 30-60% of the county’s Area Median Income is eligible.

“The residents here at Vista Azul will have housing security and that leads to better health and educational outcomes,” said David Estrella, the county’s housing and community development services director.

Since 2017, the county has invested more than $314 million into affordable housing. The funding, in addition to money obtained from state, federal and local sources, has led to the addition of nearly 2,500 homes with 3,100 more on the way.
