SAN DIEGO – In a significant step to support veterans and military families, Mayor Todd Gloria signed an executive order today aiming to increase City employment for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. The announcement was made at the City’s annual veteran appreciation breakfast.
The order follows San Diego’s recent approval as a U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge provider, connecting transitioning service members with City job opportunities. Through SkillBridge, service members in their final six months of active duty can gain practical experience with civilian employers through internships and training, preparing them for post-military careers.
Since taking office, Gloria has spearheaded initiatives to welcome veterans, including creating a 16-member Advisory Council, launching a partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project, and establishing a veteran employee association.
