Chula Vista middle school student arrested for school shooting threat

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A middle school student in Chula Vista was arrested Tuesday morning before school after police were alerted to potential threats made by a student to commit a school shooting.

Early Tuesday morning, the Chula Vista Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit received an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips mobile app of potential threats made by a student that reportedly threatened a school shooting at Bonita Vista Middle School in Chula Vista.

After receiving the tip, officers went to the student’s home before school Tuesday where they arrested a middle school student, who is now facing charges of making criminal threats.

Police noted there were no firearms found during the investigation and that the messages were sent via Discord.

Chula Vista police arrest 12-year-old after threatening messages circulate at schools

Police did not identify the minor student.

The police department says officers, along with School Resource Officers and school staff, will continue to investigate the incident.
