SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — California Highway Patrol is investigating after a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 caused a fiery crash near Torrey Pines Monday night.
The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. just after the freeway’s interchange with State Route 56. According to CHP logs, a driver traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes had collided with another vehicle and the retainer wall head-on.
At least one of the two vehicles involved then became engulfed in flames in the righthand lane of I-5 north.
Pedestrian hit by vehicle in North County
No information has been made available regarding the extent of any injuries sustained by those in either vehicle. An investigation remains ongoing.
