What was once an untraditional choice has now become a high-level standard – the best Division I players in San Diego facing off against the best that Los Angeles has to offer.
That new tradition was sparked again at Mount Miguel High School on Saturday during the eighth edition of the Makasi Bowl, where the San Diego side fought hard but lost to its neighbors from the north.
“There’s talent all over San Diego,” Lincoln safety and PPR Play of the Year award winner Niko Ta’a said. “If you can ball, you can ball. Doesn’t matter where you are.”
Team Makasi is a multi-level sports group that hosts 7 on 7 teams for youth and high school, along with testing combines and training programs.
