SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego community is feeling the holiday spirit and giving back after a police detective was forced out of her home by a water leak that caused flooding and mold, displacing her and her dog.
At nearly $20,000 of its $50,000 goal , there is still some time to donate to the GoFundMe to help San Diego Police Department Homicide Det. Megan Hovdey, who is out of her home this holiday season because of flooding that caused significant mold damage to her entire home.
The GoFundMe , posted by the SDPD Homicide Investigations Team and shared publicly by the San Diego Police Officers Association , was shared in hopes that the community will rally to help her.
According to the GoFundMe, Hovdey first discovered water pooling underneath her entire home back in October after noticing some standing water near the edge of her house one day as she was leaving for work.

After draining the water, a pin-sized hole in a copper pipe beneath her house was found to be the cause, and repairs were made and the water was drained.
