Two pedestrians dead after crash in Lemon Grove on New Year’s: sheriff

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by two cars that collided near a Lemon Grove 7-Eleven on New Year’s Day.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were trying to cross Broadway when they were hit and killed.

The crash was reported around 11:17 a.m. in the area of Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue.

Officials with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the two were trying to cross the street at the time of the collision when they were struck and both died from their injuries.

The occupants of both vehicles involved were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, sheriff’s say. The driver and passenger of the silver Prius involved were reported to have minor injuries, while the driver of the grey Acura was reported to have major injuries.

One woman we spoke with said the driver that reportedly crashed into the other car was driving erratically moments before the collision. Investigators have been on the scene taking pictures and gathering evidence.
