SAN DIEGO — The carnation has represented the City of San Diego as its official flower since its decision in 1964. Now, there is a motion to swap the city’s official flower for a native flower.
Carnations are famous in grocery stores, but not so much in San Diego. That’s why the San Diego Bird Alliance and Conservation Advocacy Coordinator Savannah Stallings are looking to change the official flower.
“San Diego is the most biodiverse county in the United States, it has over 2,000 plants,” Stallings said. “So there are so many amazing species that are representative of the different biodiversity and habitats that are here.”…
