SAN DIEGO — The sentencing for Jose Hector Ruiz, a man who was arrested for fentanyl seizure last year, was postponed until April 9 after he hired new legal representation.
Ruiz, who briefly appeared in a Chula Vista courtroom Wednesday, was arrested in Alpine in February last year after law enforcement discovered 720,000 fentanyl pills packed into 110 bags inside his vehicle, according to the California Attorney General’s Office. Authorities called his arrest the largest fentanyl seizure under California’s specialized enforcement program.
The criminal complaint alleges Ruiz possessed the fentanyl pills with intent to sell, describing the operation as one that “indicates planning, sophistication or professionalism.”…
