California’s First Steel Mill in Five Decades to Break Ground Creating Hundreds of Well-Paying Jobs

MOJAVE – Pacific Steel Group has officially broken ground on its Mojave Micro Mill, the first steel mill to be built in California in over 50 years. This state-of-the-art facility will produce zero carbon emissions steel, setting a new industry standard while supporting California’s ambitious climate goals.

Located in Kern County, the project will generate nearly 700 jobs in fields like welding, automation, and robotics. Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized the economic impact, saying it’s a perfect example of “growing regional economies while tackling climate change.” The mill’s clean energy-powered design includes renewable energy and cutting-edge carbon capture technology, ensuring a carbon-neutral future for the steel industry.
