San Diego, California – A dramatic rescue operation at the South Mission Beach jetty Friday night left four lifeguards injured after they rushed to aid a man and woman who had been swept off the rocks by powerful waves.
According to Lifeguard Lt. Rick Romero of San Diego Fire Rescue, a guard at the South Mission Tower spotted the pair being knocked off their feet around 6:30 p.m. The man and woman had ventured to the end of the jetty to watch the surf when an incoming wave caught them off guard, slamming them against the rocks.
