California Faces Social Security Chaos as AARP Warns of Service Disruptions

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — AARP California is sounding the alarm over looming changes to Social Security customer service processes that could cause widespread confusion and delays for millions across the state, AARP stated.

With more than 6.3 million Californians relying on Social Security — including 4.9 million retired workers and over 514,000 disability recipients — AARP says the planned modifications by the Social Security Administration (SSA) could worsen already long phone wait times and limit access to help at field offices.

The SSA postponed the changes until April 14, following pressure from AARP members who sent over 2 million messages to Congress. Still, AARP says the delay isn’t enough. Media interviews with AARP California leaders are available to raise awareness. (Source: AARP California)
