A routine traffic stop turned into a low-speed pursuit in Imperial Beach on Tuesday evening, according to authorities. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation attempted to pull over a vehicle around 6:00 p.m. for multiple vehicle code violations. The driver of the vehicle, however, failed to comply, leading to a chase that ended on the 900 block of Seacoast Drive.
Refusing to obey officer commands, both the driver, Aaron Meza, born December 15, 1991, and his male passenger exited the vehicle swiftly after it stopped. Details provided by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department illustrate Meza showing signs of aggression and assuming a combative posture against the deputies. In response, the law enforcement officers used force to detain him.
The situation escalated when two residents, identified as Abigail Persson (DOB: 12/04/2000) and Jonathan Diaz (DOB: 07/30/1999), came out from their home, trying to interfere with the arrest despite being ordered to keep their distance. After a “minor use of force,” as stated by authorities, both Persson and Diaz were detained.
