PHOTOS: 31,000 runners, celebrities take to San Diego streets for Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Tens of thousands of runners, including two celebrities, took to the streets of downtown San Diego over the weekend for the 2025 Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series San Diego.

Devin Desouza of Arlington, TX, and Shelby Meek of Nampa, ID, finished in first place for the men’s and women’s marathon that saw 31,000 participants run through eight San Diego neighborhoods as they were cheered on by crowds, drumlines and live music from dozens of local bands.

Along the way, runners rang the “Highway to Hill” bell at mile 22.

In the half marathon, Abrham Tesfamaria of Flagstaff, Ariz. finished the 13.1-mile route first for the men’s division, while Julia Vasquez of San Francisco claimed the women’s title, the marathon organizers report.

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker ran the half marathon alongside pro MMA fighter Marlon Andrés Vera Delgado — more widely known as Chito Vera — and took time to take photos and connect with fans at the finish line, the marathon organizers said.

On Saturday, a 5K race took place through San Diego’s Balboa Park.

The marathon organizers said this year saw 8,000 more runners, an 11% increase, with over 6,500 of those runners, a 78% increase, from Mexico…
