CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Jose Hector Ruiz was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday for possessing over 720,000 fentanyl pills, following his arrest in Alpine last year. The sentencing took place in Chula Vista court, where Judge Michael J. Popkins ruled that Ruiz would be eligible for parole after serving 7 years.
The case, which represented the largest fentanyl seizure since the inception of the partnership between the Department of Justice and the state’s Fentanyl Enforcement Program, had faced several delays since Ruiz’s arrest in February 2024.
