New state-of-the-art patient tower opens at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Scripps Health opened its new 8-floor tower that will add 188 beds for patients at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

The North Tower — a 420,000-square-foot structure made of glass, brick and steel that overlooks Genesee Avenue and Interstate 5 — took eight years to plan and build, and features comprehensive mother-baby services, advanced technology operating rooms and spacious private patient rooms, Scripps Health announced.

The North Tower opened Sunday and physicians, nurses and technicians moved 133 patients, including newborn babies and expecting moms, from the campus’ original hospital structure, the Browning Building, into the new tower through connecting enclosed passageways…
