Wavy yellow lines on Mission Beach boardwalk draw attention, criticism

SAN DIEGO — They were supposed to bring order to the busy Mission Beach boardwalk — but instead, newly painted yellow center lines are drawing puzzled looks and even some laughs. That’s because in some areas, the lines are anything but straight.

“They did a poor job that was pretty rushed,” said Connor Holmes, who lives just off the boardwalk near Santa Barbara Place. “Down the boardwalk, the lines get a bit more curvy as you go. It was overdue, but I think they did a poor job with it.”

Photos circulating online — including one from a Reddit post — show visibly crooked and uneven striping along stretches of the path. The City of San Diego says the original paint job was completed on Friday but was botched due to faulty equipment. Crews removed some of the worst paint once it dried, and planned to restripe this week. However, recent wet weather delayed the work…
