Woman dies in sheriff’s custody at Las Colinas Detention Facility

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 53-year-old woman in custody at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility died Friday afternoon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies discovered the woman unresponsive in her cell around 4:25 p.m. while serving dinner to inmates on June 13. Authorities said deputies immediately began CPR and called for emergency medical assistance. Paramedics and the Santee Fire Department arrived shortly after and took over lifesaving efforts, but the woman was pronounced dead at the facility at approximately 4:35 p.m.

The woman had been in custody since Jan. 3, 2025, facing multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and felony vandalism. Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
