(The Center Square) – San Diego County underwent a third day of brush fires Friday near Lakeside as fire crews work diligently to extinguish the flames.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection sent in some of its emergency response forces near Lakeside around 3 p.m. Tuesday to fight a fire that emerged off El Monte Road, west of El Monte County Park. Fire crews were faced with another challenge on Thursday afternoon when a second fire erupted eight miles southeast from the edge of the Monte Fire at the southern end of Hawick Drive.
As of Friday morning, the Monte Fire had charred 1,049 acres and was 35% contained, according to a post on X from Cal Fire. The Hawick fire had burned 51 acres and was 75% contained…
