When to expect 2025 helicopter drops of mosquito larvicide in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Vector Control Program is working to reduce mosquito populations throughout the county during mosquito breeding season, and several aerial mosquito larvicide drops will be conducted every three to four weeks through October.

The next aerial mosquito larvicide drop will take place June 25 and 26 as a helicopter drops the larvicide in areas with standing water that can’t be treated on the ground.

The county’s Vector Control Program says they do these drops from April to October to lower the number of mosquitoes and to help decrease the risk of people in the community contracting West Nile virus.

Throughout mosquito breeding season, in total, the Vector Control Program (VCP) reports it will be dropping larvicide that kills mosquito larvae by helicopter at up to 52 locations spanning 1,400 acres.
