4 years later, California mother still missing as husband awaits murder trial

San Diego, California – Nearly four years after Maya “May” Millete vanished from her family’s home in Chula Vista, the man accused of killing her — her husband, Larry Millete — is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a readiness conference. The hearing, set at the South County Superior Court, is intended to evaluate whether the case is prepared to proceed, though the trial itself is now delayed until January 2026.

Maya Millete, 39, disappeared on January 7, 2021, after she reportedly informed her husband of her plans to file for divorce. Despite extensive searches, her body has never been recovered. But in October 2021, following a nine-month investigation involving 67 search warrants, 87 interviews, and more than 130 tips, authorities arrested Larry Millete and charged him with her murder.
