The San Diego Public Library (SDPL) is gearing up for its annual Pride celebration, promising a bevy of events under the theme “Unbreakable Pride, Unshakeable Power.” As a hub of community engagement, SDPL’s Pride festivities highlight a commitment to offering safe spaces for lifelong learning, echoing the sentiments of Library Department Director Misty Jones. “Public libraries are places for San Diegans to enrich themselves and their communities, and that’s more exemplified during Pride than perhaps any other time of the year,” Jones stated, according to the City of San Diego.
Adults and families with children can look forward to specially tailored, Pride-themed storytimes that celebrate diversity and individuality, events scheduled at three different library locations. With the first kicking off at Rancho Peñasquitos on Tuesday, July 8, followed by University Heights on Tuesday, July 15, and Mission Valley on Thursday, July 17, the storytimes promise to be a nurturing ground for age-appropriate LGBTQIA+ education through stories and songs. Adding to the lineup, Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library is set to become a vibrant scene on Saturday, July 19, from 10:30 AM to 4 PM, with a Pride Pop-Up Celebration that will feature a special Pride Edition Dance Pants Party, refreshments, crafts and swag, while supplies last, as SDPL detailed in their announcement…
