Suspicious package prompts temporary gate closure at Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspicious package left near the main gate of Camp Pendleton prompted a full shutdown of the base’s main entrance and surrounding freeway off-ramps early Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, the incident began when a man attempted to enter the base at the main gate near Harbor Drive and San Rafael Drive. After being denied entry for reasons not yet disclosed, the individual reportedly dropped a suspicious package just outside the gate before leaving the area…
