Cool Zones open across San Diego County as triple-digit heat expected

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With scorching temperatures gripping San Diego County, officials are urging residents to seek relief at designated Cool Zones as part of a seasonal program aimed at protecting the public during extreme heat.

A Heat Warning remains in effect for San Diego County deserts through 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, with temperatures expected to soar up to 118 degrees. Additionally, a Heat Advisory has been issued for both the county’s valleys and mountain regions, where temperatures could reach 90 to 102 degree, respectively.

In response, Cool Zones — free, air-conditioned public spaces — are now open throughout the region. The program, which runs annually from June 1 to Oct. 31, offers safe havens for vulnerable residents, especially seniors, children and those without access to air conditioning.
