MTS boosts trolley service for Padres games during NL West showdown

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With San Diego getting ready to welcome thousands of Padres fans to Petco Park for the NL West showdown, commuters can expect heavy traffic in the areas of downtown surrounding the ballpark.

The Padres will face off against two of their divisional rivals in the NL West with a seven-game homestand at Petco Park.

It kicks off with a 4-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday, Aug. 18, followed by a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which is set to begin on Friday, Aug. 22.

To make traveling to and from each game more convenient and less costly, the Metropolitan Transit System is expanding their trolley service schedule for all Padres games.

Pre-game service:

  • All trolley lines will serve all stations every 15 minutes or better.
  • The Green Line will have added service closer to the start of a game.

Post-game service – Aug. 18, 19, 20 and 23

  • Trolleys on the UC San Diego Blue Line will depart downtown every 15 minutes to San Ysidro and to UTC.
  • Trolleys on the Green Line and Orange Line will depart downtown every 15 minutes.
  • Extra trips from Gaslamp Quarter Station will be added as needed.

Post-game service – Aug. 21 and 24

  • Trolleys on the UC San Diego Blue Line will leave downtown every 7-and-a-half minutes to San Ysidro and 15 minutes to UTC after the Aug. 21 game and every 15 minutes in both directions after the Aug. 24 game.
  • Trolleys on the Green Line will depart downtown every 15 minutes, with extra trips as needed from Gaslamp Quarter Station.
  • Trolleys on the Orange Line will depart 12th & Imperial station every 15 minutes after the game ends.

During weekends, two children ages 12 and under can ride MTS trolleys for free with a paying adult…
