Fresno County inmate accused of fellow inmate’s death after fight, officials say

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An incarcerated man from Fresno County is being accused of the death of another incarcerated man after they were both fighting at a correctional facility in San Diego County, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said on Thursday.

The CDCR said 32-year-old Aikane Matias of Fresno County is under restricted housing pending an investigation into the death of 43-year-old Jerry Elliott from Riverside County.

The incident happened at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County. Staff responded to a cell fight between Elliott and Matias on Aug. 16 at around 6:15 a.m.
