Earlier this month, a fire broke out along Hotel Circle South. Fire trucks, engines, water tenders, battalion chiefs, and even a helicopter were reportedly called in to battle the flames before they reached the Legacy Resort Hotel and Spa. The first responders protected the hotel and the guests.
But at other hotels and motels across San Diego County this year, not everyone has been so fortunate. Some guests checked in — only never to check out.
On July 28 in Oceanside, firefighters forced their way into a Motel 6 room after responding to a blaze. Inside the room, they found one person, who was “pronounced dead on scene,” according to ONSCENE.TV. At the time, it was unclear if the victim’s death was directly related to the fire; that the Oceanside Fire Department was still investigating the cause of the fire.
On July 19, a Reddit user posting under the name SweetStrawberry1996 wrote about witnessing a man jump from the third floor of The Westin San Diego Bayview, calling it “very traumatic.” In similar threads, other people who said they work in the hotel industry remarked that suicides in hotels and motels are unfortunately common, but rarely reported in mainstream news reports because of concerns over copycats…
