New bill aims to increase number of Spanish-speaking teachers in California through exchange program

SAN DIEGO — A new bill would increase the number of Spanish-speaking teachers in the state of California by creating an exchange program.

Packing for the first day of school is a family ritual for Kristen Fore and her kids, Parker and Grace. But she believes the most important thing she’s sending them to school with is their ability to speak Spanish. Both went to a dual immersion school and are bilingual.

“People speak Spanish everywhere, and I wanted my children to have that advantage,” Fore said. “I didn’t. I’m not bilingual, and I wanted my children to have that advantage and to be able to understand what was happening around them.”…
