Del Mar, California – A 42-year-old man from Pacific Beach has been arrested after allegedly threatening to “shoot up” Del Mar City Hall, prompting a swift law enforcement response and the cancellation of a public event.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said deputies rushed to the Del Mar Civic Center Thursday afternoon after receiving a phone call in which the caller made alarming statements about attacking the facility. Officers quickly conducted a safety sweep of the building, which houses City Hall, to ensure the safety of employees and residents. Out of caution, city officials also canceled a public concert that had been scheduled at the civic center later that evening.
The investigation led deputies to a home on the 1400 block of Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, where they arrested Kyle Knudsen without incident. A registered firearm was found at the residence along with a 15-round magazine, which is illegal under California law. Knudsen was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of making criminal threats and possession of a large-capacity magazine. Jail records show that he has since been released on bail…
