California’s ‘No Secret Police Act’ awaits governor’s approval

SAN DIEGO — A proposed California law banning law enforcement from wearing masks during most operations has been sent to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for final approval.

Senate Bill 627, also known as the “No Secret Police Act,” would prohibit local, state and federal law enforcement officers from covering their faces. The bill includes exceptions for SWAT teams, medical-grade masks such as surgical or N95 masks, and masks designed to protect against smoke during a state of emergency related to wildfires.
