In tune with the commencement of Hispanic Heritage Month, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has collaborated with local artist Michelle Guerrero, aka Mr. B Baby, to introduce a special, limited-edition PRONTO card that showcases the rich Hispanic culture thriving in San Diego. As reported by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, these cards are adorned with Guerrero’s signature style that marries traditional Mexican motifs with a modern flair, encapsulating the community’s traditions, resilience, and achievements across the region.
MTS Board Chair and San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn said, as per the Metropolitan Transit System, “This special PRONTO card celebrates the Hispanic community’s deep roots and vibrant culture in San Diego.” He further highlighted the importance of recognizing the impactful contributions of the Hispanic community and expressed pride in featuring Guerrero’s artistry on their transit cards. For her part, Guerrero has infused the cards with imagery that pays homage to the cultural narratives and strength inherent in Hispanic traditions. Per her own words, “The characters on the card are a nod to the deep-rooted power found in our culture, where traditions, storytelling, and community have always taught us how to turn challenges into triumphs.”
These PRONTO cards are not just for tapping in and out of San Diego’s trolley or bus system, but serve as vibrant tokens of the city’s admiration for its Hispanic citizens. They are part of MTS’s ongoing initiative to appreciate and celebrate the sundry communities shaping the city’s fabric, with previous projects honoring the San Diego Padres and the city’s Pride Parade and Festival.
