EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a deadly assault earlier this week at an apartment complex in unincorporated El Cajon.

The victim, 34-year-old Cory Alexander Desarno of East County, was found with traumatic injuries inside an apartment at 425 E. Bradley Ave. in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies from the Lakeside Sheriff’s Substation responded to the scene around 1:35 a.m. on following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. They discovered Desarno unresponsive and immediately began CPR. Despite efforts from deputies and paramedics, Desarno was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the incident. They are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, but the motive and circumstances surrounding the assault remain unclear at this time.
