Drug Lord Admits to Murdering Washington Couple and Unborn Child: San Diego Drug Ring Exposed as ICE Digs Deeper

In a stark unfolding of events that began with a drug seizure at San Diego ports of entry back in 2021, Benjamin Madrigal-Birrueta, convicted of leading a drug ring, has admitted to the gruesome killings of 44-year-old Cesar Murillo and his 33-year-old pregnant wife, Maira Hernandez, to silence them as witnesses in a federal investigation. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Madrigal-Birrueta, an undocumented Mexican national, along with co-conspirators, orchestrated the murders during a dispute in drug trafficking, entailing the fatal shooting of the couple and the death of their unborn child.

The investigation, spearheaded by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), used radar, cadaver dogs, and forensic testing to discover the remains in September 2023 after Madrigal-Birrueta directed the burial of the victims at a Yakima ranch, this case also has Ricardo Orizaba-Zendejas facing charges, he played a significant role as an accessory and co-conspirator and is set for trial in October.
