SAN DIEGO — San Diego’s largest military air show is returning on Friday, “taking the breath away” of the hundreds of thousands of people flocking to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the backdrop of the original 1986 ‘Top Gun’ movie for its flight school and airfield scenes.
From Sept. 26-28, the Miramar Air Show will feature a total of 15 performers, including the Blue Angels, the USAF F-22 Raptor demo with the P-5 Heritage Flight, as well as civilian performers such as Vicky Benzing and Aarron Deliu during the three-day event.

Located at Miramar Rd, San Diego, CA 92126, the Miramar Air Show will kick off on Friday, Sept. 26, and continue until Sunday, Sept. 28, rain or shine. Gates will open at 8 a.m., and ticket holders can start to check into their designated areas starting at 9 a.m., according to the Air Show’s website. For a chance to grab a great spot or to enjoy early exhibits, the Air Show is advising people to arrive early to beat the crowd.
The Air Show also requires attendees 18 years old and older to present a valid form of government-issued identification, and those without a proper ID will not be permitted.
Parking, transportation information
Parking is free for visitors attending the Miramar Air Show and will be marked, however organizers urge attendees to arrive early to avoid long wait times and to secure a spot closer to the entrance. Handicap parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles with a handicapped license plate or windshield placard can enter through the West or North Gates off Miramar Road.
