The County of San Diego is taking a small step towards addressing its housing shortage by making Tiny Homes on Wheels (THOWs) an official part of the residential mix. According to the County’s Department of Planning & Development Services, tiny homes on wheels, essentially pint-sized, towable dwellings, are now recognized under current zoning ordinances in unincorporated areas. This means they can be used as standalone housing or accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on the same lot as an existing standard-sized home, the County of San Diego reported.
The decision reflects a broader initiative by the County to incorporate various housing solutions into the local market.
