California prepares for E15 fuel debut to cut costs and emissions

SAN DIEGO — A new gasoline blend containing 15% ethanol, known as E15, will soon be available at California gas stations following the approval of Assembly Bill 30. The legislation, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, aims to provide drivers with a potentially cheaper and cleaner fuel option.

Assemblymember David Alvarez of San Diego, who introduced the bill, said, “This is an opportunity to do two things that we want to do in California, keep our environment clean not polluting anymore that’s what this does and not increase the price actually quite the opposite decreasing the cost of gasoline.”

According to the Governor’s office, the new law allows gas stations to sell E15 while the Air Resources Board continues to study whether the blend meets California’s clean air requirements. Although E15 is now legal to sell, it may take some time before it becomes widely available at pumps across the state…
