Gorilla Cracks Viewing Glass At San Diego Zoo; Exhibit Temporarily Roped Off As Visitors Report Dramatic Impact

A dramatic moment unfolded Saturday afternoon at the San Diego Zoo when a gorilla suddenly sprinted toward the viewing glass, leapt into the air, and struck the window with its elbows, cracking the thick pane in a large circular pattern nearly three feet wide.

The incident occurred around 4:20pm and sent visitors scrambling away from the enclosure as staff members quickly arrived to rope off the area. No injuries have been reported, and the gorilla remained safely inside the habitat.

Witnesses described the sound as a “deep thud” followed by an audible crack. Photos shared online show spider-webbing damage to the inner layer of the glass.
