Imperial Beach Library Bronze Plaque Stolen; Residents Asked to Help Identify Suspect

On October 17, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m., a bronze plaque was stolen from the exterior wall of the Imperial Beach Library. The library is located in the 800 block of Imperial Beach Boulevard. The suspect, who has not been identified, arrived in a white Chevrolet Silverado truck, model year between 2005 and 2010. The suspect removed the plaque, valued at about $4,500, placed it in the truck bed, and left the area.

Sheriff’s Detectives believe this theft may be related to other incidents involving stolen bronze plaques from libraries in San Diego County. Other affected locations include Lemon Grove, Rancho San Diego, Alpine, and 4S Ranch. The suspect is described as a white, bald male, between 40 and 50 years old. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt, gray shorts, and dark sneakers at the time.
