Regal Edwards Mira Mesa to Open Full Bar With Captain Keno’s Liquor License, Bringing New Option for Local Moviegoers

Regal Edwards Mira Mesa, a movie theater in San Diego, will add a full bar to its services. The theater has obtained a Type-47 liquor license, which permits the sale of beer, wine, and cocktails. This license is being transferred from Captain Keno’s, a bar in Encinitas that closed in 2024 after operating for over fifty years.

Captain Keno’s opened in 1970 on Coast Highway. It was known for its low-cost breakfasts, drinks, and regular customers. The bar was started by Gerry Sova and was recognized for its simple setting and red booths. In 2021, RAF Pacifica Group bought the property for $10.5 million. Demolition began in 2025 to develop the Moonlight Mixed-Use Project.

With Captain Keno’s now closed, its liquor license will be used at Regal Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX. The theater is known for its luxury seating and technology. It will soon offer a range of cocktails, such as margaritas, mojitos, and drinks like the Peach Whiskey Smash…
