SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The federal government shutdown may be over, but many San Diego County families are still grappling with the financial fallout — and on Saturday, hundreds braved steady and soaking rain to line up at food distribution events across the region.
At Cal State San Marcos, Feeding San Diego delivered produce, milk, potatoes and cereal to stock the university’s food pantry, which serves students and local families.
“There are still plenty of families out there in need. There was a need before the government shutdown,” said Alondra Lopez with the Cal State San Marcos food pantry. “When you’re tight on money, food is always the one thing people start looking at — maybe I can get less food this week.”…
