Residents fear new parking meters will price them out of street parking near Balboa Park

SAN DIEGO — Residents at an apartment complex on 6th Avenue near Balboa Park are voicing concerns that the city’s new parking meter rates could force them to park blocks away from their own homes. The city is installing parking meters with four-hour time limits on the street where residents currently park for free, with rates set to reach $2.50 per hour once collection begins.

The apartment building lacks a garage or driveways, leaving residents dependent on street parking. They say they cannot afford the proposed rates.

“Nobody can afford to park here, nobody in this complex can afford to park in front of our house, in front of our residence, at the rates they’re proposing,” said Aaron Quintanar, a resident on 6th Avenue…
